[ Well! The cutting knife will go to Prompto to do the honors, and the wine she'll uncork herself, pouring them each a hearty portion of the drink. And while they're busy serving each other their first slice of cheesecake, preparing their slide-show dessert and wine--
She's almost forgotten something! ] Oh-- oh, there's one more thing. Er, two more things, actually--
For the both of you, this time. [ She rounds the counter, opening a cabinet below to bring out two pots of flowers. ] One...! [ She brings out lively indigo irises-- ] And two! [ --and softly pastel gladioluses, setting each upon the counter. ]
And because Pyra made the mistake of giving Prompto the knife, everyone will get nice big slices of cheesecake because what is portion control. Not at this party!
When the flowers come out, though, he needs to stop and take a breath.]
[Prompto's not the only one. Noctis might not even recognize them on sight before - he's not a botanist or anything - but he'd been thinking about them recently, especially with all of the flowers cropping up last... month? Yeah, it was last month, here.
He doesn't speak, but he has the same question in his gaze as he glances over at Pyra, idly lifting a hand to brush his fingers over one of the gladiolus blossoms. He just saw Gladio recently and things have been... difficult... since Altissia, so the sight of them is somewhat bittersweet, but the reminder isn't a bad thing.]
[ She looks from Prompto's enthusiastic response to Noctis' more subdued one, smiling nonetheless. ]
Mm, they just were in a package delivered just this morning! [ True story. Addressed to her, too. Perhaps it was a mistake, because--] Gladioluses and irises... These flowers are more suited to the both of you, I think. [ For obvious reasons.
The irises remind her of a droplet of ink blooming in water; the gladioluses, like receding stormclouds at dawn. They complement each other. Lifting a hand to tuck a strand behind her ear, she sighs. ] Aren't they lovely?
[He might cry. He won't, because this is supposed to be a happy time. But, gods, it's been so long - three weird years - since he's laid eyes on Gladio, or Iris. He's never "gone home" in all that time.]
Yeah. They really are.
[Yeah, no, he's gonna cry a little. Don't mind him.]
We should put them front and center, where everyone will see them.
[Hard to miss the severity of Prompto's reaction, even with Noct's poor mental state; he leans over, bumping his arm against his friend's. It's easy to forget, with how cheerful he always seems and how much shorter an absence it's been for the rest of them, just how long Prompto has gone without seeing home or many of their friends. This little party may be to cheer him up, but hopefully it'll help the other two as well. Things have been rough all around for a while now.]
Sure, but if Gladio shows up I'll tell him that was your idea, not mine.
[ Noting Prompto’s sentimentality, she respectfully doesn’t point it out. But she does step forward to the both of them, smiling warmly.
It had only been recently that she learned it’s been years for Prompto since he’s seen his home. These flowers won’t replace truly seeing either Gladio or Iris in person for him (or Noct), but she hopes it will be as if they are here with the two of them in spirit. Facilitating the flowers had been a stroke of coincidence, and she wants nothing more but for this moment to be for them.... even if she also wishes to give Prompto a great big ol’ hug.
Quietly, ]
I’ll be sure to plant them later, too... So that they’ll always be here with you, mm?
[The smile and the sass is good-natured and comfortably familiar, and he holds on to that feeling as he takes his big piece of cake and a glass of the wine, heading over to the couch. It's not the biggest, so it'll be a tight squeeze for three, and he parks himself in the middle. He has no idea what's going on, but if they're planning to show him something, may as well take the best view. Plus... selfishly, it'll be nice to be surrounded by friends.]
So what's the show? You haven't said what we're doing yet.
[ So, this is what they are like together. It's touching, and she can respect what they have between them, a comfortable, supporting relationship that both acknowledges the others' feelings but not afraid to tease about it, either.
Taking her own slice of the cheesecake and glass, she settles onto one side of Noctis. Time to cozy up! She appears content already, having hoped that this would turn into a cuddle couch eventually. And besides, it's comfortable to be leaning against another.
As for his question, she glances over Noctis to look at Prompto. Should they keep it a surprise?? Should they tell him? She's going to leave it to him. ]
Thought it might be fun to look back on some stuff.
[Prompto cozies up on the other side of Noct, bending one leg up on the couch so he can balance his plate on it, his wine glass perched on the arm of the couch (perfectly safe), and his hands busy with the controls that will get this show started.]
[As the photo fades into view on the screen, Noctis visibly leans in, eyes widening a little as he realizes just what they've planned, here. So that's it...
That's... actually really sweet. His friends are dorks.]
I remember that one. Duscae, right? After a hunt, we were just killing time.
[ Oh— yeesh. She stares a moment before laughing, looking away with a slight blush. From the design, that must be Gladio’s? This slideshow is a surprise to her, too, in many ways. ]
[Ah... that one makes his heart hurt a little, though he smiles anyway. The Regalia's in their garage now, borrowed from his father since he woke up and it became a comforting haunt, his safe place. Harder to feel sad about the Regalia's fate when it's pristine and in one peace just a few rooms away.]
There's a classic... looking back, it's kind of lucky we broke down when we did.
[They'd have just rolled on past Hammerhead, otherwise.]
[ She catches Prompto’s eyes as he looks at her, and then brings a hand to her lips as she laughs at their banter. It’s clear neither of them truly blame the other, but that this is yet another fond memory. ]
It’s hard to believe that you four had the energy to pose for a picture after all that!

All at once? Get the cake and the wine, and we can eat while we watch... whatever we're watching.

Thank you, Pyra.
[He breaks into a big, if still a bit tearful, grin, and nudges Noct.]
C'mon. Cake's not going to eat itself.

no subject
Sure did. Nowhere near the garage, either. We had to push it in.
[He leans forward to catch Pyra's eye.] And it was not my fault.
no subject
[There's an air of skepticism in Noct's voice.]
I seem to remember you being the one in the driver's seat, though.
[The car had just stalled, so it was technically nobody's fault, but Prompto opened the door so he's gonna walk the truth right on through.]

I'm pretty sure this was after we did those hunts to pay for the repairs. I think I was just happy to be alive, T-B-H.
Here, here. Look at this thing. Look.
[Just look at it.]

[Noctis tilts his head a bit as he studies it. Big and beefy, probably about to turn daemonic- it was a wild fight for a group of novice city boys.]
...From that angle it looks like it's eating me.
